Impact of the Welfare Reform Act on employers
The Welfare Reform Act has placed the emphasis on getting people off incapacity benefits and back to work. This means that employers will need to keep jobs open for employees while they are off sick and encourage them back to work. They will need to ensure that they are complying with the Disability Discrimination Act by making reasonable adjustments to assist a return to work.

Research by the Department for Work and Pensions earlier this year found that 83% of incapacity benefit claimants did not have any adjustments made to the workplace to help accommodate their condition, and 71% did not have access to occupational health services through their employer. If you need help to improve employee attendance or have a long-term sickness absence problem get in touch today on 0845 603 6696 /01684 594773 or via email: helen@cheringtonhr.com
